The golden bough : a study in magic and religion
James George Frazer's comparative study of magic, myth and religion, issued in London by Macmillan in 1914 for scholars and general readers, in a copy held by the Royal College of Physicians. The single image here is the binding: a rectangular panel of gold-stamped mistletoe, leaves and berries spreading from a central stem, pressed into green cloth dash a usable model for foliate block ornament, endpaper repeats and stamped-metallic effects on textured grounds.
