The book of protection : being a collection of charms, now edited for the first time from Syriac mss
A scholarly first edition of Syriac charm manuscripts, edited and translated by Hermann Gollancz and published in London by H. Frowde in 1912 for orientalists and students of magic and folklore. The plates are halftone facsimiles of scribal drawings in thick brush-black: lance-bearing riders spearing horned demons, grid-ruled magic squares filled with letters, and text blocks framed by horseshoe and plaited borders, usable as raw amulet motifs, lettering grids and hand-drawn frames.
