Geist der Medizin : analytische Studien über die Grundideen der Vormedizin, Urmedizin, Volksmedizin, Saubermedizin, Berufsmedizin
A German-language scholarly study by the Viennese physician and ethnographer Oskar von Hovorka, published by Wilhelm Braumüller in Vienna in 1915, tracing the underlying ideas of prehistoric, folk, magical and professional medicine for doctors and students of folklore. The single image indexed is the Wellcome Historical Medical Library bookplate, a red woodcut roundel in which a spotted snake winds up a staff crossed over an anchor, flanked by two large blossoms, with the library name set in capitals around the rim; the flat line hatching, circular lettering ring and compact emblem structure adapt directly to logos, seals and badge marks.
