The golden bough : a study in magic and religion
James George Frazer's comparative study of myth, magic and religion, issued in one abridged volume by Macmillan of London in 1923 for general readers rather than specialists. The plates are few: a tonal photogravure frontispiece after Turner's painting The Golden Bough, with its lake, palm-like tree and small classical figures dissolving into haze, plus an inked ownership stamp in heavy block capitals — usable as soft atmospheric landscape tone and as stencil-style lettering.
