Astro-theology: or a demonstration of the being and attributes of God, from a survey of the heavens. Illustrated with copper-plates
William Derham's Astro-theology (London: W. Innys, 1715) argues for God's existence from the evidence of the heavens, addressed to educated English readers of natural philosophy and divinity. The pictures here are printers' woodcut ornaments set into the letterpress — tailpieces and headbands of scrolling acanthus, fruit baskets, birds and a spread-winged eagle over an anchor — usable as compact black-line vignettes, rules and chapter dividers.
