A system of magick; or, a history of the black art. Being an historical account of mankind's most early dealing with the Devil; and how the acquaintance on both sides first began...
Daniel Defoe's prose history of magic and dealings with the Devil, printed in London by J. Roberts in 1727 for a general reading public curious about the black art. The illustrations are letterpress woodcut headpieces and ornaments — scrolling acanthus, flower baskets, urns, trumpets and a grotesque mask — usable as rules, banners and chapter dividers.
