Theorie de la lune deduite du seul principe de l'attraction reciproquement proportionelle aux quarrés des distances
Alexis Clairaut's 1752 treatise deriving lunar motion from the inverse-square law of attraction, printed in French by the Imperial Academy of Sciences press in St Petersburg for mathematicians and astronomers. The single folding plate holds four numbered geometric constructions in thin engraved line: triangles, arcs, tangents and dotted auxiliary lines with lettered points, useful as sparse diagrammatic linework on toned paper.
