Le ventriloque ou l'engastrimythe
A 1772 French treatise on ventriloquism and the voice by Jean-Baptiste de La Chapelle, issued with a London imprint and sold in Paris by the widow Duchesne for an educated reading public. Its pictures are not illustrations but letterpress ornaments: small woodcut flower sprigs with buds and curling leaves, and a banded headpiece of urns, baskets and acanthus scrolls, usable as spot motifs, dividers and chapter headers.
