Lettres cabalistiques, ou correspondance philosophique, historique et critique, entre deux cabalistes, divers esprits elementaires, & le Seigneur Astaroth
A French epistolary satire on cabala, magic and contemporary manners by the marquis d'Argens, printed at The Hague by Pierre Paupie in 1741 for a learned reading public. The plate is an engraved letter-heading by Jacob van der Schley: a rococo scroll-and-acanthus cartouche framing a vignette of hoop-skirted women in an interior, with red hand-colouring and space for numbering.
