Lettres cabalistiques, ou correspondance philosophique, historique et critique, entre deux cabalistes, divers esprits elementaires, & le Seigneur Astaroth
A satirical epistolary work of philosophy and criticism by the Marquis d'Argens, staging letters between two cabalists and elemental spirits, printed at The Hague by Pierre Paupie in 1741 for a French-reading Enlightenment audience. Jacob van der Schley's engraved letter headpieces set small scenes, such as a gentleman before shelved library books, inside rococo cartouches of shells, scrollwork and foliage with banderoles for numbering.
