The baronial and ecclesiastical antiquities of Scotland
A survey of Scottish castles, tower houses and church ruins drawn by the architect and antiquary Robert William Billings, first issued in the 1840s-50s and reprinted in Edinburgh in 1909 for architects, builders and antiquarians. The plates are fine-line engravings of masonry seen in raking light, with corbelled turrets, crow-stepped gables and window mouldings rendered stone by stone, and small figures set at the base for scale tu2014 useful for texture fills, architectural silhouettes and detail studies.
