The baronial and ecclesiastical antiquities of Scotland

Billings, Robert William, 1813-1874 · 1852 · London, Published by the author · 60 pictures

A four-volume topographical survey of Scottish castles, abbeys and parish churches, drawn and published by the architect Robert William Billings in London in 1852 for antiquarians, architects and builders. The steel engravings give measured exterior views in fine grey line: ruined nave arcades, tower houses, crowstepped gables, formal terraces and heavy foliage, useful for architectural silhouettes, masonry texture and atmospheric skies.
