Robert William Billings's four-volume survey of Scottish castles, abbeys and parish churches, drawn on site and published by the author in London in 1852 for antiquaries, architects and builders. The steel engravings show exteriors and vaulted interiors in fine parallel line, with strong cast shadows, tracery windows, carved doorways, ruined masonry and small figures for scale.
