The baronial and ecclesiastical antiquities of Scotland
A four-volume antiquarian survey of Scottish castles, abbeys and churches, drawn and etched by the architect Robert William Billings and published for the author by Blackwood in Edinburgh and London from 1845, aimed at architects, antiquaries and subscribers. The steel engravings pair distant elevations of Gothic facades under open skies with close interior views of vaulted aisles, carved tombs and ruined masonry, offering tracery patterns, weathered stone texture and strong tonal contrast for cutouts or backgrounds.
