The baronial and ecclesiastical antiquities of Scotland
A four-volume architectural survey of Scottish castles, tower houses, abbeys and parish churches, drawn and etched by Robert William Billings and issued to subscribers in Edinburgh and London from 1845, for antiquaries and architects. The plates are tinted steel engravings of masonry seen in raking light: crow-stepped gables, turrets, tracery windows, ruined arcades and dense foliage, useful for silhouettes, stonework texture and dramatic skies.
