A Latin emblem book issued by the University of Vienna in 1651, printed by Matthäus Cosmerovius for a graduation ceremony honouring the new baccalaureates of philosophy under Joannes Pfleger. The plates set small engraved scenes — armed processions, a mounted combat, a figure at a fire-lit vessel, a harbour landing before a palace — inside heavy strapwork cartouches flanked by winged cherub heads and grotesque masks, alongside woodcut leaf-and-scroll ornaments useful as frames, headpieces and printer's flowers.
