A juvenile adventure novel by Oliver Optic (William T. Adams), issued in Boston by Lee and Shepard in 1871 for boy readers, with wood engravings cut by Samuel S. Kilburn after Reimunt Sayer. The plates are densely hatched outdoor scenes: a bear charging a girl in woods, figures on a cliff above a lake, sloops heeling under wind, a wreck in rain.
