The Beauties of England and Wales, or, Delineations, topographical, historical, and descriptive, of each county
A multi-volume county-by-county topographical survey of England and Wales begun in 1801 by John Britton and Edward Wedlake Brayley, printed in London by Thomas Maiden for Vernor and Hood and sold to antiquarian and gentry subscribers. The plates are small copper engravings of distant towns, abbeys, bridges and country seats seen across foregrounds of framing trees, fences and tiny figures, with fine stipple skies and hatched hillsides useful for landscape vignettes and border framing.
