The beauties of England and Wales, or, Delineations, topographical, historical, and descriptive, of each county
A multi-volume county-by-county topographical survey of Britain begun in 1801 by John Britton and E. W. Brayley, issued in London by Vernor and Hood for antiquarians, travellers and subscribers to descriptive gazetteers. The plates are small steel and copper engravings of abbey ruins, parish churches, castles and country seats, each set in a wooded landscape with tiny figures and clouded skies, offering designers finely hatched masonry textures, Gothic window tracery, and compact captioned vignettes.
