Beautiful gardens in America
A 1915 Scribner's survey of private American gardens by Louise Shelton, illustrated with commissioned halftone photographs of estate grounds in New York, Massachusetts and elsewhere, aimed at garden owners and designers of the country-place era. The plates are soft grey halftones of clipped hedges, perennial borders, pergolas, lawns and garden seats, each captioned with estate and owner, useful for period landscape texture, plant massing and horizontal framed compositions.
