A volume on the fine arts from the Encyclopédie méthodique, compiled by Claude-Henri Watelet with P. Ch. Levesque and plates engraved by Robert Bénard after Jacques Eustache de Sève, published in Paris and Liège in 1788 for subscribers to the set. The pictures sampled here are letterpress flower vignettes—roses, pansies, ranunculus and trailing tendrils massed into swags and sprays with dense crosshatched shading—usable as chapter headpieces, tailpieces and cut-out ornament.
