Bernini and other studies in the history of art
A scholarly art-history volume by the American archaeologist Richard Norton, published by Macmillan in New York in 1914 for students and connoisseurs of Italian sculpture and painting, centred on Bernini with further essays on Giorgione. The plates are sepia halftone photographs of terracotta bozzetti and marble figures shot against plain grey studio walls, offering deeply shadowed drapery folds, rough modelled clay surfaces and twisting saints' poses for cut-out figures and texture references.
