Beschouwing der Wereld
Beschouwing der Wereld is a Dutch emblem book of didactic verse by the Amsterdam engraver and poet Jan Luyken (1649-1712), reissued in 1738 by Kornelis vander Sys for readers drawing moral lessons from nature and daily life. The 91 copperplates set small groups of walking, gesturing figures in landscapes of framing trees, arched bridges, pastures and mountains, with skies built from close ruled lines usable as ready-made hatching patterns.
