Beuroner Kunst; eine Ausdrucksform der christlichen Mystik

Kreitmaier, Josef, 1874- · 1921 · Freiburg im Breisgau Herder · 42 pictures

A German study of the Beuron art school, the hieratic mural and mosaic style developed by Benedictine monks at Beuron, written by the Jesuit critic Josef Kreitmaier and published by Herder in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1921 for readers of religious art history. The 43 monochrome plates reproduce apse lunettes, friezes and wall paintings in which flat profile figures, angels and robed saints stand on ruled ground lines between geometric borders and bands of Latin capitals, useful for hieratic figure outlines, inscription strips and compartmented border patterns.
