Max von Pettenkofer's three public lectures on air in relation to clothing, dwellings and soil, delivered to the Albert-Verein in Dresden in March 1872 and printed by Vieweg in Braunschweig for a general audience. Wood-engraved apparatus plates show a bird in a glass cylinder, clamped stands and tubing, a mouth blowing into a cylinder, plus a white-on-black grid chart of carbonic-acid readings by month.
