Bible astronomy; or, The little book on the mysteries and wonder of the rise and fall of Babylon
An 1853 St. Louis tract in which Josiah F. Melcher reconciles scripture with astronomy, privately printed at the Intelligencer buildings for Bible-reading laymen. The plates are crude wood-engraved cross-sections of a hollow, open-poled earth: jagged hatched crusts, nested arcs, fans of radiating ray lines, and hand-lettered captions like "SOUTH POLAR OPENING VOID" set straight into the drawing.
