The Bible in iron:
A catalogue of cast-iron stove plates made by German and Pennsylvania German founders, compiled by Henry Chapman Mercer and published by the Bucks County Historical Society in Doylestown in 1914 for antiquarians and museum collectors. The 229 photographs record low-relief panels of biblical scenes, tulips, urns, hearts, columns and dated inscriptions in German lettering, usable as folk-ornament motifs, decorative borders, and rough cast-metal textures.
