Bibliographie gantoise. Recherches sur la vie et les travaux des imprimeurs de Gand (1483-1850)
Ferdinand van der Haeghen's Bibliographie gantoise (Ghent, 1858) is a scholarly survey of Ghent printers from 1483 to 1850, compiled for bibliographers and book historians and illustrated with facsimiles of their marks and ornaments. The reproductions are small black-and-white woodcuts: strapwork cartouches with grotesque masks and satyr heads, doves and eagles in radiating haloes, cherub faces, fruit swags and monogram shields, all rendered in dense parallel hatching usable as vignettes, frames and tailpieces.
