Bibliothecae Alexandrinae icones symbolicae P.D. Christofori Giardae cler. reg. S. Pauli elogiis illustratae
An emblem book of 1628 printed in Milan, in which Cristoforo Giarda, a Barnabite priest, supplied Latin elogia for allegorical personifications of the liberal arts painted in the Biblioteca Alessandrina, with plates by the engraver Cesare Bassano for a scholarly Latin readership. Alongside the allegorical figures run woodcut initials in foliate frames and leafy scroll tailpieces, usable as drop caps, dividers and border units.
