Bird Center cartoons, a chronicle of social happenings at Bird Center, Illinois; pictures and text
A collection of newspaper cartoons by Chicago Tribune artist John T. McCutcheon, published in Chicago by A.C. McClurg in 1904, recording the social doings of an invented small town, Bird Center, Illinois, for a general American readership. The drawings are brush-and-pen line work in heavy black frames: hook-nosed profiles, gesturing orators, courting couples, crosshatched checks and stripes on clothing, all usable as spot figures and gesture studies.
