A Dutch topographical survey of the Netherlands and its inhabitants, written by Abraham Jacob van der Aa and published in 1855 for general readers at home. The 127 wood engravings are captioned town and village views — churches and brick gables along canals, a harbour of moored sailing barges, an arched footbridge, carts and small figures in the street — useful as stock townscapes, silhouettes of spires and roofs, and skies of piled cloud rendered in fine parallel line.
