The miser's daughter, etc
William Harrison Ainsworth's historical novel of Georgian London, issued by G. Routledge & Co. in 1855 with etched plates signed by George Cruikshank, aimed at the mass Victorian fiction market. The plates are dense crowd scenes in fine line etching — tricorne hats, hooped skirts, gabled street fronts, lantern-lit pleasure gardens, and small comic figures at the edges — useful for period costume silhouettes, eighteenth-century street architecture, and grouped figure compositions with dark foliage framing.
