Gustavus Vasa and his stirring times. Scenes from history told for youthful readers
Albert Alberg's retelling of the life of Gustavus Vasa and sixteenth-century Sweden, published in London by W. S. Sonnenschein & Co. in 1882 for young readers. Twenty-nine captioned full-page wood engravings mix massed battle scenes of pikes, halberds and drums with dim domestic interiors of hiding, oath-taking and peasant crowds; useful for crowd silhouettes, period armour and weapon shapes, and heavy-shadow interior staging.
