Lilias, the Milliner's Apprentice ... With ... wood-engravings drawn by W. H. Thwaits
A serialised melodramatic novel by Gabriel Alexander, issued by the London penny publisher John Dicks in 1854 for a mass reading public, with wood-engravings drawn by W. H. Thwaits. The plates set costumed figures in parlours, shops and street doorways: crinolines, frock coats and top hats, drawn in fine outline with light hatching, useful for period dress, interiors and gesture-driven staging.
