Dizionario corografico dell' Italia ... Opera illustrata, etc
A multi-volume Italian geographical dictionary compiled under Amato Amati and published in Milan from 1868, written as a reference work on the towns, provinces and physical features of the newly unified kingdom. The plates are numbered civic coats of arms, hand-coloured in flat red, blue, gold and silver over ruled hatching, showing crenellated towers, gateways, rampant crowned lions, crosses and grassy mounds inside plain pointed shields — usable as ready-made heraldic silhouettes and simple colour-block emblems.
