Constantinople ... Translated ... by Caroline Tilton
Edmondo de Amicis's account of Constantinople in Caroline Tilton's English translation, issued in New York by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1898 for armchair travellers and tourists. Forty-one soft grey halftone plates give panoramic city views — the floating bridge, the Mosque of Suleiman seen from the Seraskierat tower, the Top-Hane fountain, caiques on the Golden Horn — with pale skies, minaret silhouettes and engraved script captions.
