An English Garner. Ingatherings from our history and literature
An English Garner is a multi-volume anthology of English historical and literary texts gathered by Edward Arber, later edited with A. W. Pollard, published in London from 1877 for general and student readers. Its ornament consists of square initials with white foliate letters on stippled dark grounds and engraved tailpieces of acanthus cartouches, birds and scattered flowers, usable as drop caps and section breaks.
