An English Garner. Ingatherings from our history and literature
An English Garner is a multi-volume anthology of English historical and literary texts compiled by Edward Arber and later re-edited by Alfred William Pollard, published in London from 1877 for readers and students of early English writing. The illustrations are square woodcut initial letters in white on a dotted black ground, each capital wrapped in thistle buds, acorns and acanthus foliage, usable as drop caps, monograms or small ornamental blocks.
