History of Arkansas Valley, Colorado. [By W. B. Vickers and others.] Illustrated

1881 · O. L. Baskin & Co. · 181 pictures

A subscription county history of Colorado's Arkansas Valley compiled by W. B. Vickers and others, published in Chicago by O. L. Baskin & Co. in 1881 and sold to the local settlers, merchants and officials whose biographies and portraits fill it. The plates are stipple-and-line bust portraits of bearded and moustached men in dark coats and bow ties, each set in a vignette that fades to blank paper and captioned with an engraved facsimile signature, giving designers ready-made oval head studies, period handwriting and soft-edged frame shapes.
