John Ashton's antiquarian survey of English social life in the late eighteenth century, issued in London by J. C. Nimmo in 1885 as a large-paper edition for collectors of period manners and dress. The plates are outline drawings copied from Georgian caricature and fashion prints, printed in sanguine ink on cream: towering feathered headdresses, hooped skirts, tight breeches, dancing masters — useful as clean single-weight contour figures and costume detail.
