Social England under the Regency ... With ... illustrations

ASHTON, John - Antiquary · 1890 · Ward & Downey · 55 pictures

John Ashton's antiquarian social history of England from 1811 to 1820, published by Ward & Downey in London in 1890 for general Victorian readers, with 55 plates redrawn after Regency satirical prints and fashion plates. The images are sparse outline engravings with captions in small capitals: crowded coaching accidents, high-wheeled curricles and spoked wheels, promenading dandies and bonneted belles in Hyde Park, and tavern uproar, useful as clean-contour figure groups, period costume reference, and vehicle silhouettes.
