Emma. New edition
An 1896 Macmillan edition of Jane Austen's Emma, illustrated by Hugh Thomson with an introduction by Austin Dobson, made for late-Victorian readers buying Austen as a decorated classic. Thomson's pen-and-ink line drawings set Regency figures in bonnets, tailcoats and high-waisted gowns against sparse interiors of chairs, doorways and sash windows, each captioned with dialogue—useful for figure poses, costume detail and light hatching.
