The Ingoldsby Legends ... With sixty illustrations by George Cruikshank, John Leech, and John Tenniel

Ingoldsby, Thomas · 1893 · R. E. King · 19 pictures

A late reprint of Richard Harris Barham's comic-gothic verse and prose tales, published under the pen name Thomas Ingoldsby by R. E. King in London in 1893, carrying sixty illustrations by George Cruikshank, John Leech and John Tenniel for a general Victorian readership. The plates are captioned single-scene vignettes in fine etched line, each set in a soft oval or rounded frame that fades into white paper: horned devils at table, sheeted ghosts, bedside deathbeds, crowded courtroom benches of bearded elders, all useful for caricature faces, crowd staging and vignette borders.
