Naval Actions of the War of 1812 ... With 21 illustrations in color by C. T. Chapman
A popular naval history by James Barnes, published in London by Osgood, McIlvaine & Co. in 1897 for general readers, with twenty-one plates by American illustrator Carlton T. Chapman. The plates are tonal marine paintings reproduced in halftone: square-rigged frigates and schooners under full sail on choppy open water, broadside gun smoke, and pale washed-out skies, useful for rigging silhouettes, wave texture, and low-contrast seascape backgrounds.
