Beaten at the Finish; or, Love and adventure in the hunting field
A late-Victorian sporting romance by George F. Bateman, issued in London by Diprose & Bateman in 1899 for readers of hunting-field fiction. The plates reproduced here are the volume's printer's ornaments: light pen-line tailpieces and headpieces built from scrolling flower sprays, monogram cartouches, bellflower and morning-glory stems, and a hatched cruciform rosette, usable as small dividers, spot decorations or page furniture.
