Beeton's Brave Tales, Bold Ballads, and Travels and Perils by Land and Sea. Illustrated ... Edited by S. O. Beeton
An illustrated anthology of adventure stories, ballads and travel narratives for boys, edited by Samuel Orchart Beeton and published by Ward, Lock & Co. in London in 1872. The wood engravings mix full-page cavalry charges and sword duels with small in-text vignettes of street characters, a drummer boy and figures in doorways, giving crosshatched period costume, horses and comic gesture.
