Picturesque York. [With illustrations
A topographical sketchbook of York issued in 1886 by B. Johnson & Co., drawn by architect George Benson with J. England Jefferson for local readers and visitors to the city's older streets. The 52 plates are captioned pen-and-ink line drawings printed in brown ink on cream paper: narrow lanes, jettied timber houses, shopfronts with hanging signs, parish churches and a few small figures and carts, useful for hatched architectural line work, street-name lettering and cropped building silhouettes.
