A popular narrative history of Ohio written by journalist Alexander Black and issued by D. Lothrop Co. of Boston in 1888 for general and school readers. L. J. Bridgman's full-page pen-and-ink plates, captioned beneath in small capitals, show frontier surveyors, log courtrooms, mounted raiders and harvest scenes in loose crosshatched line that reproduces well at small sizes.
