Henry Blackburn's travel account of summer spa life in the French Pyrenees, illustrated by Gustave Doré and published in London by Sampson Low in 1881 for British tourists and armchair travellers. The wood engravings are mountain scenes — gorges, cliff paths with mule trains, storm-lit peaks, wooded valley roads — built from fine parallel hatching that leaves pale skies and snowfields open for tonal backgrounds or vignettes.
