Lorna Doone: a romance of Exmoor
An illustrated edition of R. D. Blackmore's 1869 Exmoor romance, issued by Sampson Low in London in 1883 with wood engravings after William Henry James Boot, William Small and F. A. W. T. Armstrong for general novel readers. The plates are tonal landscapes — wooded valleys, moorland skies, a cathedral town, a torchlit gorge — useful as atmospheric vignettes, textured skies and silhouetted tree masses.
